Fresh Tomatoes

This is a very quick sketch using lots of thick paint.  I felt like piling on the paint yesterday - after I did all kinds of housework and baking and kept myself from painting for several days with the multitude of mundane tasks I saddled myself with.  It is so freeing to paint quickly and not be so attached to the final result.  It looks a bit messy to me as I have not attended to all the details, but it also looks strong and determined.

Back Lit Apples

Marina and I painted these lovely apples on Monday in her studio.  She suggested the back lighting for the still life which I think turned out wonderful.  Backlighting is something I rarely think of doing and I that is one of the great things about having someone to paint with on a regular basis - they really open your eyes to possibilities that exist.

Wild Crab Apples

I found these wild crab apples while I was visiting with my Mom in Markdale last week.  I was out driving around on the back roads of Grey County looking for a place to do an outdoor painting.  It was an absolutely gorgeous day, but for whatever reason I could not seem to choose a place to set up my easel. I found the crab apple tree growing in the ditch so I pulled over and filled up a bag with these delightful little apples. I ended up driving home and setting up a still life outside at my Mom's.

Apples in a Green Bowl #2

It's been a long time since I last posted on my blog - I am glad to be back.  These apples were given to me by one of my patients and not only are they beautiful and exciting to paint, but they are natural and not sprayed - so delicious to eat.
