Antique Butter dish

My mom picked up this butter dish lid at a garage sale years ago for me to paint.  It has taken me a while to use it, but finally I set it to use.

The Green Bowl

After a long season of painting outdoors it is finally time to come back to the studio.  I  am experimenting with some new light sources and some new equipment for getting my images online.  I thought I would try a series of the same objects in different compositions and different light situations as a primer for my still life season.

Over the Tree Tops

6 x 6"     Oil on Birch Panel

The Ottawa Valley has experienced some fabulous skies this summer.  I painted this one evening last week from my back deck.  It was a very hot, humid evening and I had no energy to go out looking for a painting spot.  My husband suggested I sit on the deck and paint the clouds over the trees.  Thanks, Phil.

Paintings of spots along Forest Lea Road

Godin's Garden   6 x 6"    Oil on Birch Panel

Our neighbours down the road keep a lovely garden which over looks fields to the south.  The pink structure in the background is the foundation of an old barn that has fallen down many years ago.  I love the view of the old foundation against the greens of the fields and the bright flowers of Rob and Peg's garden.

Walter's Hayfield         8 x 8"   Oil on Birch Panel

The sun was nearly set when I started this painting of our neighbour's recently cut hay.  The colours were rich and the lines produced by the rows of hay were important elements of the design, it was a very hot, humid Sunday evening but I couldn't resist what this scene had to offer.  I was glad that I painted it when I did as the next day the hay was baled and the lovely rows of drying hay were gone.

Sundown at KO Lodge

6 x 6"  Oil on Birch Panel

This is the final painting at KO Lodge after a glorious afternoon of painting under wonderful skies that changed minute by minute.  As the sun was close to setting only a few clouds remained and the water became still and flat reflecting perfectly the trees and sky.

KO Lodge

Another gorgeous day painting in the Deep River area.  This summer has been a wonderful time for going out on painting adventures with my friend Marina.

Driftwood Park

This is the first of my summer paintings, Marina and I spent a gorgeous day in the park surrounded by Lady Slippers and mosses.  Today being a rainy day, it's been a great day to catch up on photographing and cropping and posting.

Petawawa Point Winter Afternoon

I have photographed this painting before and my camera always makes the blue too saturated. The  digital image is still bluer than the actual painting but I thought I would post it anyway.  Thanks for the really nice comments on previous posts from B.C.  I lived on Vancouver Island and in Burnaby for a few years and love to hear from folks on the west coast.

Saar's Lane - Studio Painting

Wow! I apologize for any strange paintings or parts of paintings that my email subscribers may have received early this morning.  I took some photos of a few paintings with my iPad and tried to use the images to do a blog post.  Not good.  Even though I used the photoshop application on the iPad I could not resolve the resizing issues, and I noticed the photos were cropped by blogger.  If anyone out there uses their iPad and has some suggestions I would love to hear them.
The image above is my tried and true Lumix camera and Windows Live gallery tools.

Snow Sketches

More studies of snow and trees on our property through various windows of our house.  It was -25 degrees outside so I took the easy way out and painted indoors.  The really bright coloured ones were meant to be underpaintings but I did like the effects and just left them as loose sketches.

Saar's Lane

Last autumn found Marina and  I painting on Saar's Lane not far from her house.  The sun was setting behind the rolling landscape and we did one last small painting of the day.  This remains one of my favorite outdoor sketches, both for the looseness of the brushwork and the freshness of the colour.

Finchley Road

It's been quite a while since I have posted on my blog; I have been painting all this time but have not been happy with the way my paintings have looked after I photographed them.  I continue to experiment with different set-ups but have returned to using my Lumix camera with the paintings set up on my painting easel using natural daylight on a sunny day with the light coming in from my north windows.  This particular painting was done last fall while out with my friend Marina as we cruised the "Roads of Renfrew County" looking for painting spots.
