Pink Cup

This little pink cup is part of a very small teaset that my grandmother had for as long as I remember. She always kept it with her many other 'treasures' on her walnut whatnot. She was a great woman and a lover and collector of fine things. The bottle is an antique medicine bottle I found in a small shop in Markdale

Birches in November

This sketch was painted on the abandoned farm property near our home. It was a gorgeous fall day, most of the leaves had fallen, but the sun was warm on our backs. Marina had brought a thermos of hot tea which we devoured near the end of the day when our hands and feet got cold as the sun dipped behind the trees.

Near the Saugeen River, Markdale

The old railway track from to Toronto to Owen Sound has been lifted and is now used in the winter as a snowmobile trail and the rest of the year as walking trails. The trail runs west and north of Markdale along the Saugeen River. There are many beautiful views looking over the river and like this one, along lanes into farmer's fields and bush lots. The month was September and the light on the early turning grasses and leaves was unmistakably early autum.

Poppy Study

This is a preliminary sketch for a larger painting. It was done for a friend of mine, Kate who I appreciate so much for her support of my work. She has purchased several of my paintings and has given me several commissions in the past. Thank you Kate.

The 6 Poplars

Down the road from our house is a farm that has a laneway that leads through the fields to a bush at the back of the property. I imagine this building to be an old sugar shack that has long been in disuse. The painting was done one sultry evening in late August this summer. The sun was low in the sky and cast a golden, warm light over everything.

2 Pears

These two pears I painted at my friend Marina's house. We were working on brushwork and trying to paint fairly quickly to preserve a fresh look, without being overfussy.

Near Deep River

I was driving around looking for a place to paint and I came across this georgeous view of the Ottawa River. The weather was unsettled that day and shortly after I finished this small sketch it rained. I was just able to gather my painting supplies together and head back to the car getting only slightly rained on. It was worth it being out painting.

Favorite Cup

Many years ago when my husband Phil and I were living in Iowa we visited friends in Davenport. Phil bought me this cup made by one of the local artisans. I used it for along time, until it got a small chip in the rim. Because it is so delicately made and the design is so lovely I have never been able to part with it.

Sumachs

This painting was done at a spot down the road from where I live, there is an abondoned farm there which has many small out buildings and sheds. The property is overgrown with sumachs, birches, and many wild flowers, grasses, and trees. Many of the buildings have beautiful weathered green roofs which I love to paint.

3 apples

After having a lot of difficulty uploading the pictures of my paintings I have finally succeded in uploading this image. The problem was that my pictures contain so much data that the webpage timed out before the image finished loading and I lost internet connection. The fix for the problem was to go into the Paint program and resize the image down.

After the Snow

The heavy snowfall after Christmas is still on the trees, this painting was done looking north from my second story studio window. I am experimenting with taking pictures of the paintings in different locations in my house to get the closest reproduction of the colour in the digital image.

Blue Jug with Vinegar Bottle

I was painting at my friend Marina's house and we came up with this still life composition using a very expensive and beautiful bottle of Balsamic vinegar with this homey piece of pottery which sits over her stove. The little red object is a crab apple which her sister Francie kindly gave to me. Marina made some dandy crab apple jelly.

From my studio Window

This is a view from my studio window. We have many beautiful trees in the front yard which are made even more wonderful by the recent heavy snowfall.
